What you’ll do

Job Summary

Under limited supervision, originates and develops design approaches for an entire product design project to accomplish product objectives including the preparation of product design documentation to satisfy customer specification requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs the preparation of the detail design documentation.

  • Prepares conceptual product designs.

  • Prepares and presents product design proposals.

  • Resolves product design problems in conjunction with technical customer representatives and assists in implementation of resolutions.

  • Directs the preparation of accurate and complete manufacturing drawings.

  • Assists in establishing and maintaining valid structural design methodology for component design.

  • Interacts with Manufacturing, Estimating and Contracts to define changes in scope of the product design, which occur as the result of a customer's specification change.

  • May provide technical assistance to lower level design engineers and technical direction to the design drafting function.

  • Maintains a constant awareness towards safety in the workplace and notifies supervision immediately of hazardous conditions and practices.

  • Exhibits commitment to quality performance in all aspects of every task or project performed.

About you

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/civil/aerospace engineering, or additional 5+ years of experience in lieu of degree.

  • 5+ years’ aerospace component design experience in a manufacturing environment; this includes experience in advanced materials, fabrication technology and finite element analysis required.

  • Experience with Mechanical Computer Aided Design (NX CAD), including substantial experience in computer programming for design analysis required.

  • Experience in design documentation and with drafting standard required.

  • U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements.

Additional Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering, or equivalent, preferred.

  • Knowledge of drafting standards.

  • Skilled in the preparation of good design documentation.

  • Demonstrates an ability to independently do work of a creative nature.

  • Possesses excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
