Engineering client is looking for an Environmental Scientist with 3-5 years of experience for a Contract assignment based out of La Jolla, CA. You will support the permitting process for their electric transmission line construction projects throughout Southern Cal. Client is looking for candidates that are local to the La Jolla area or willing to commute.

Responsibilities for the Scientist

  • Attend weekly meetings with substation and transmission groups to discuss project progress

  • Tracking and reporting project schedules and detailed project spreadsheet updates

  • Communicate with transmission, substation, information technology, construction services and contractors on engineering, procurement and installation activities throughout the project life cycle

  • Provide permitting assistances to obtain Caltrans, Railroad Right of Entry, Encroachment, Utilities, and Traffic Control Permits from local governing agencies

  • Identify permit requirements and interrelationships, schedule permit applications, develop permitting strategies, and managing timely completion of deliverables by the permitting team

  • Coordinate construction activities with the client's Land Management Services and Environmental Programs to assure project compliance with Regulatory State and Federal Agencies

Requirements for the Scientist

  • You need 3+ years of experience as an Environmental Scientist, Permitting Specialist, or similar title with a focus on developing permitting strategies and schedules

  • BS degree in a natural resources field, environmental science, Biology or related field from an accredited program is needed

  • Experience developing permits for transportation, transmission line or similar 'linear construction' projects would be a PLUS

  • Experience working with utilities is a plus

  • Ideal background is in environmental compliance during construction
