We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineering Supervisor in our Army Engineering group at General Atomics - ASI.

With limited direction, this position exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the review, research, design, development, and/or solution to advanced technical engineering problem (s). Functions in a managerial and project leadership role providing personnel supervision and direction to an experienced professional staff. Formulates plans, typically long term, for solution(s) development, documentation, and deployment, as well as meeting various compliance, reporting, and safety standards. Evaluates the integration of the engineering solution within the overall engineering environment; and ensures that appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates completed. Communicates with engineering professionals, solution users, and management throughout the solution development cycle, represents the company as a prime technical contact on contracts and/or projects, interacts with senior external personnel on technical matters requiring coordination between the organizations.


  • Supervise and direct the work of a team of System Engineers and oversee their output for consistency and accuracy

  • Plan and schedule work assignments for the team. Monitor project schedules, timelines and deliverables using standard project management tools and engineering systems

  • Perform personnel supervision and managerial duties including Performance Review and Appraisal, Career Planning & Development, Training & Growth and Team and Workplace Environment Development.

  • Define individual accountability and milestones to meet project objectives. Communicates performance expectations and provides assistance to resolve problems encountered by the team.

  • Develops and champions Systems Engineering practices and processes within the organization, including but not limited to Model Based Systems Engineering

  • Formulate plans and oversee the development of new system capabilities/features from concept to fielding.

  • Conduct stakeholder requirements elicitation, analysis and definition.

  • Perform analysis of stakeholder requirements to decompose and allocate requirements to lower-levels of specification (system/segment/subsystem/component). Ensure bi-directional traceability between requirements at all levels of specification.

  • Troubleshoot conflicting design/development requirements at all specification levels to ensure adequacy and satisfaction of requirements.

  • Maintain, manage and integrate requirements across various modeling tools and requirements management systems.

  • Collaborate with peers across various projects to promote knowledge sharing, model reuse and consistency in approach.

  • Provide technical coordination across engineering groups to facilitate the implementation, verification and validation of system requirements.

  • Prepare, review and present technical specifications.

  • Develop technical reports of findings and communicate results through technical presentations to engineering staff, management and customers.

  • Provide direction and oversight for system engineering team at regular stakeholder meetings such as requirements change control boards, design reviews, and technical interchange meetings.

  • Participate in continual improvement of system engineering process. Define and maintain metrics to measure performance and predict future effort.

  • Develop rough order of magnitude or detailed estimates for new work based on historical data and past performance.

  • Provide support for proposals/white papers and customer interface.

  • Represent the Company as the prime technical contact to the customers and/or government regulatory agencies.

  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf f the Company.

  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; fifteen or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, thirteen or more years of experience with a master’s degree, or ten or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • Preferred industry experience in one of the following areas: systems engineering, software development and project management.

  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory and practices in related technical specialties.

  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering using SysML and UML.

  • Experience in requirements elicitation, analysis and definition, as well as allocation, decomposition and bi-directional traceability.

  • Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM Rational DOORS and JAMA.

  • Experience with architectural modeling tools, such as IBM Rational Rhapsody, NoMagic Magic Draw, Open MBEE, or Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect.

  • Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Familiarity with various DOD and industry open standard initiatives is desirable: FACE, OMS, UCS, UCI, and STANAG.

  • Familiarity with Government guidelines, regulations and certification for airworthiness, system/software safety, information assurance and cybersecurity is desirable.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. US citizenship is required.

  • Able to work extended hours as required.

  • Willing to travel up 25%.
