Every summer girls arrive at Girl Scouts San Diego summer camps excited for new adventures, fun, and making lifelong memories. Camp Whispering Oaks, located in the beautiful mountains of Julian, CA, is a unique rustic camp that features arts and crafts, a sport field, basketball court, challenge course, and astronomy programming. Campers choose from programs focusing on science and space, outdoor skills, sports, theater and the arts. Campers and staff sleep in fully enclosed indoor cabins with electricity and paved, lighted pathways winding through native manzanita, oak and pine.
Under moderate supervision, the Dance Specialist develops and delivers dance activities that are safe, fun and appropriate to age and abilities of campers; manages dance facilities and related supplies and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and deliver dance activities using and teaching different styles and techniques, utilizing natural environment and resources wisely.
Ensure campers and staff know and follow safety and educational procedures in dance area.
Manage the care, use, and requisition of supplies and equipment during camp.
Supervise opening and closing of the dance area daily, maintains an accurate inventory of supplies and participates in end of season camp evaluation and reporting
Participates as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, and all other all-camp activities and functions.
Contributes to the diversity emphasis of the council by ensuring that all materials, activities and programs are sensitive to and reflective of the interest, values and needs of persons of all racial/ethnic groups, cultures, religions and abilities.
Attends staff and in-service training during the summer.
Observes all safety precautions and complies with all council health and safety rules and policies and procedures.
Perform other duties, as assigned.

Staff training for this seasonal position begins June 14, 2018; Camp begins June 25th and ends August 18, 2018.
Experience and Skills:
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
At least 18 years of age; preferably 21 and a high school graduate.
Minimum six months experience with arts and crafts program and instruction preferred.
Skills in dance activities especially emphasizing use of natural materials and creativity.
Knowledge of child development and problem solving techniques.
Ability to self-direct and time management skills.
Must be able to obtain current First Aid/CPR certification by first day of campers’ arrival.
Must submit health history record prior to first day of work.
Attends staff meetings.
Ability to interact with all age levels.
Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required. Must be comfortable driving narrow, winding mountain roads with passengers in mini or cargo vans.
