Position Purpose:

To efficiently proof read and edit all internal and external marketing/advertising communications for Petco brands and sub-brands in a manner that assures format errors (grammar, spelling, syntax, etc.) are minimized, regulatory compliance is maintained and Petco style standards are consistently followed; and to update Petco style guides and manual as necessary.

Essential Job Functions: The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Quality check and proofread all marketing project copy and pricing for accuracy, regulatory compliance, grammar, spelling and correct style in accordance with all Petco brand and sub-brand style guides.

  • Ensure all proofread copy is regulatorily compliant.

  • Make all assigned deadlines.

  • Fact check and confirm all information contained within for potential libel or factual errors, including addresses, phone numbers, dates, web sites, etc.

  • Remain knowledgeable of the Petco Style Manual to ensure continuous, consistent style throughout all Petco brand and sub-brand communications.

  • Complete thorough copy/research assignments as necessary to complete any given project/task, or as assigned. Including immediate follow through on incomplete information and offers to obtain missing information.

  • Ensure all updated copy is entered into the database.

  • As directed, print and route all assigned projects.

  • Execute on all email/change forms on ad sets and on all marketing projects - and ensure the content direction (any direction of imagery, assets, trademarks, copy) is accurately and in a timely manner communicated to all necessary parties (creative team, marketing operations, marketing clients, other departments as necessary).

Work Environment:

The majority of job duties are conducted while seated indoors, with little or no exposure to hazards. Minor local travel may be required.


Educational Background:

Normally requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in journalism, advertising or communications with a discipline in advertising. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted for a degree. Must have comprehensive understanding of both copy and design functions as it relates to both copy and image/trademark content management. Requires a minimum of three (3) years proofreading, quality control, editing experience including at least two (2) years experience in all phases of advertising editing and one (1) year of retail price and item: weights and measures experience. Computer literacy, with PC and Macintosh experience is necessary. Experience writing and proofreading circulars, online promotional materials, ROP and direct mail advertising or similar industry-related experience is required. Experience with vendor co-op driven advertising campaigns is desirable. A solid understanding of the English language as well as writing styles, grammar, spelling and punctuation is required.
